I know two weeks of my time is certainly worth $80. R-Studio is one of the data recovery tools out there that enables you to reclaim all. If it were me, and I had invested two weeks into recovering something, I would assume the data is with $80. While unpleasant, the problem does have a relatively simple solution, namely data recovery software. Try Recuva again (making sure you're installing to a different drive than the one you're trying to recover from), and let us know what it comes back with. That being said, it's a little surprising that, by the way you describe it, Recuva didn't find it if R-Studio found it on a quick scan. This is a very complex field, and frankly what R-Studio does for the money is dang impressive. Pay the money and be done with it, is certainly cheaper than paying for someone to recover the data when the drive really stops working. If the data is important and the drive is failing, you may not have many attempts left. If no other software you've tried can find it, you should probably make the decision on how much the data is worth. I know it may sound expensive (which is someone humorous because the technician version most of us have to use costs like $800), but for what the software does, it's well worth the cost. then I click ok, but the process of trying to open the file then goes on indefinitely. I also can see the files now via windows, but when I try to open them (or in some cases copy them) it says "You don't have access to this, click ok to gain administrator access". Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Download R-Studio and open the install file. R-Studio is a data recovery platform for all-around use and can even get back files that have already been deleted. Anything above will require a paid license. The free version allows you to recover files that are 256KB or below. I've tried running recuva, diskdrill and test disk, but with no luck, or similar issues. The latest version of R-Studio is 8.16 (build 180499) was released on March 24, 2021. Go to the site- and it's $80usd for r-studio! I could have just gone straight to a data recovery professional for that.Īnyways, I'd very much like to finish this job on my own, and I don't want to spend $100 cdn trying to resolve it. I am a grugal guy and I've tried hard to save money on this, but I thought - whatever, I'll pay the $10 or whatever it is to get this over with. Then I ran R-studio on the drive, and it found everything! Then I tried to salvage it and - R-studio was runningi nthe demo mode, which only lets you transfer files up to 264kb. I've tried following the sidebar instructions on using ddrescue via linux, and after a few non-function versions of linux, and a german version, I got everything to work. I won't get into all of the details, but I've spent the past two weeks trying to save a corrupted harddrive, and I've taken about a million steps forward and 999,990 backwards.
